Students Concerned About Safety After Campus Robbery

Posted: Updated:
NORTH PHILADELPHIA -

An 81-year-old Temple University professor who was assaulted in a campus robbery is now in good condition.

FOX 29's Jennifer Joyce spoke with a witness who saw the professor right after it happened. She also went to campus for new details in the investigation.

Police tell FOX 29 after releasing the surveillance video last night they've received a number of leads and they're confident that an arrest will be made in this case

We talked to one student who says he saw the professor minutes after he was attacked and he shared the details with us.

Caught on surveillance video is the man police say assaulted and robbed an 81-year-old professor at knife point Tuesday morning inside of an office at Anderson Hall.

It's a cowardly act that Temple University Junior Greg Keating can't understand.

Keating says he was on the second floor of Anderson where the assault took place and saw the elderly victim walking down the hallway after the attack.

"Why would you rob an 81-year-old man with a knife," Keating asked. "I looked up and I could see the left side of his face was bloody probably about from his eye down to his jaw."

Police say the suspect stole the victim's wallet and took off.

Campus Police Officials say the wallet was later found inside of a mailbox at 13th and Montgomery Streets. Investigators are checking that piece of evidence for fingerprints and are hoping that people who recognize this ruthless man to come forward to police.

In the meantime, the big question on campus still remains how did this happen?

Students have mixed feelings about campus security.

"I think they do a good job with security for the most part at temple but it's a big building lots of students,"

Daniel Craig, a Temple University senior said.

"What does it take for the security to wake up like we have guards everywhere they don't check IDs? Does it take an 80-year-old man assaulted to realize," Maureen Adamson, a Temple University senior said.

Students agree on one thing: they feel terrible for the victim.

We spoke with the victim's family today and they say that he remains at the hospital Wednesday night where he's being treated for swelling and bleeding in the brain.

The family didn't want to talk on camera but tell us they're eager for the suspect to be caught.
