Thief Swipes Cherished Yard Sale Goods

GLENSIDE, Pa. -

A Glenside Family is trying to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis research to help their 15-year-old son. They planned to hold a yard sale fundraiser this weekend, but they woke up to find some of the donations gone.

FOX 29'S Kelly Hessedal spoke to the family.

The mother, Caitlyn Clark, had tears rolling down her face as she desperately tried to make sense of the situation. Like any mom with a sick child, she wants to find a cure for her son Peter. He has Cystic Fibrosis, a chronic illness that targets his lungs. Even regular days can be a struggle for Peter.

"It's hours and hours of him doing preventative medicine so he doesn't get lung infections," mom said.

The Clarke's are very busy parents, because in addition to Peter, they have a four more kids.

"Jennifer is 7 months old; Elizabeth is four years old; Josephine is 9 years old; Robert is 10 years old; Peter is 15 years old," she tells Hessedal.

Still, mom Caitlyn somehow finds time to organize two yard sale fundraisers each year to benefit The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

However, her efforts may have gone in vain when Wednesday morning she and her husband discovered that a thief had stolen some of the donated items for the sale, right out of their front yard.

"I just wish I could've caught them; wish I could've saw something," father Robert Clark said.

"People might say it's just a yard sale, but it's not to me. It's not just stuff; people are giving my son a chance to live longer by giving me stuff. It's not fair that someone would just come and take it away," Caitlyn said.

The fundraiser will go on anyway. However, every little bit counts, so to the thief responsible, the Clarke's say that they are forgiving and will thank the person if he or she returns the items.

"Bring them back. We're forgiving. If I see someone pull up and unload them I'll say thank you," said Caitlyn.

Caitlyn has filed a report with the Abington Township police. Officers have also gone door to door to talk to neighbors to see if they saw anything or if there was surveillance video out there. So far, there are no leads.

If you would like to donate to the Clarks' yard sale or would like to attend, you can email Caitlyn here.
