ROCKMART, Ga. -

Polk County fire crews say there was a steam explosion at a Rockmart chemical plant on Thursday morning, and one woman was killed.

They say it happened around 8:15 a.m. at the Meggitt Polymers and Composites on Goodyear Street in Rockmart.

The Polk Co. coroner confirms that 56-year-old Elaine Davidson of Rockmart was killed in the accident.  Her body has been sent to the GBI so that they can confirm her cause of death.

Authorities tell FOX 5's Doug Evans the explosion happened in an isolated area, and the plant is now back up and running.  It was not a chemical explosion of any sort, but instead a steam explosion.  OSHA was also at the scene investigating what led to it.

According to its website, Meggitt Polymers and Composites has more than 10,000 employees worldwide. Rockmart plant president John Skubina said that the plant employees about 1,200 people. It operates in Rockmart's old Goodyear plant, which according to Polk County archives was built in 1929.

Meggitt is Rockmart's largest employer. More than one-third of the population works at the plant.
