MAYS LANDING, N.J. -

The Atlantic County Sheriff's office says that it has captured a man who has been sought for more than 19 years in the sexual assault of a six-year-old girl in New Jersey.

According to authorities, 64-year-old Alejandro Arguedas-Aranda was arrested on Monday and will be extradited to the United States. Officials say that he sexually abused a six-year-old girl in his care at various times from March 1984 to March 1985.

It's unclear, according to investigators, how he became a fugitive. He was originally arrested and charged in 1994.

Police say that they received a tip in March of 2013 that Arguedas-Aranda may be living in Spain.
