Shooting In West Phila Leaves One Dead

Posted: Updated:

The girlfriend of a man shot and killed overnight in West Philadelphia didn't want to be identified but does want the public to know that the 23-year-old slain father was a good man.

"He was a hardworking man who took care of his family and his step kids and he didn't get into trouble didn't get into the streets," she said.

Witnesses report hearing multiple shots fired in the middle of the night between two men on the 100 block of Dewey Street.

"I was inside asleep my mom jumped out of bed...screaming," Paige Haynes said.

"I heard gunshots I did...but by the time I heard them I ran outside," Joshua Tardy said.

Joshua Tardy says he was hosting a Halloween party at his house at the time of the shooting and believes that one of the men involved in the shoot-out was parked in the middle of the street waiting to pick someone up from the party.

Witnesses believe the double-parked car sparked a fight between the driver who police say was a security guard and the victim who was trying to find a parking space though that theory has not been confirmed by police.

The victim's girlfriend says she and the victim have a 1-year-old little boy together and another baby on the way a child who will never know his father.

Police have not commented on a motive for this shooting nor have they given a timeline of what transpired or who fired first. They tell us they are currently conducting interviews on the information regarding this shooting.
