A 17-year-old Stephenson High School football player was shot on the school's campus in Lithonia on Sunday, officials confirmed.
The teenager was watching game films around 3:30 p.m. when there was some sort of confrontation between team members and a group of teens who don't attend the school.
The high school junior, whose name was not released, received a non-life-threatening injury from a gunshot, according to officials. He was treated and released from a hospital.
Authorities said the injured teen was an innocent bystander.
School officials say it's unclear who opened fire or why. They're looking into the possibility that Sunday's shooting may have stemmed from an earlier incident between another Stephenson football player and a football player at Stone Mountain High. No evidence suggests that a student from Stone Mountain High yet, according to officials.
There have been no arrests made.
