Michigan U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow is dismissing the Tea Party movement in the wake of the shutdown of the federal government. She says there will not be another shutdown early next year.

The democrat is sitting on the committee charged with resolving the budget impasse, with another shutdown looming over the federal government early next year if those talks fail.

The senator concludes the non-tea party republicans have had enough all this and are willing to work something out, and she thinks the bulk of those in Michigan want both parties to find a compromise.

"People across the country, certainly in Michigan, spoke out about, really, how outrageous it was that people wouldn't work together and be able to get things done," she tells Fox 2's Tim Skubick.

Skubick asks in response, "Is the tea party now part of the problem or the solution?"

Stabenow responds, "Well, the tea party represents a minority of a minority."

The senator senses a mood shift in Washington and, while she does not mention tea party Senator Ted Cruz by name, she concludes, "I think its clear that it was reckless and irresponsible, and the majority of republican colleagues understand that and I think they'll step away from the extreme elements."
