Atlanta City Council promises resolution to flag flap

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

The Atlanta City Council is set to act if the Reed administration does not reverse itself and change an American flag display.

Members of the American Legion have repeatedly told officials that a sign of "Old Glory" hanging downtown is wrong and an insult to citizens who respect the flag and what it stand for. They say the flag is being improperly displayed on a sign overlooking Andrew Young International Boulevard.  The flag is painted vertically with the union in the upper right corner.

While Reed has offered to host a summit with the upset veterans
, Atlanta City Councilmember Felicia Moore introduced legislation on Monday that would correct the sing.

The mayor has said that his staff has not acted because there is another interpretation of the flag code, which makes the current exhibit OK.

Atlanta City Councilmembers said that if Reed doesn't act soon, Moore has enough members signed on to make the change.
