CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Morning rush hour traffic was exacerbated Wednesday after several crashes on two South Side expressways.

All lanes have reopened on the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway after one person was killed and three others injured in a pin-in crash Wednesday morning.

The crash involving a semi truck and three cars occurred shortly after 5 a.m. near 85th Street, and lanes were reopened at 10:12 a.m., authorities said.

Three people were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and another to Comer Children's Hospital after the crash, according to Fire Media Affairs.

One of the victims, a female, later died, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, although no further details were available Wednesday morning.

Illinois State Police, who are investigating, said the circumstances surrounding the crash were still unknown as of late Wednesday morning.

The northbound lanes of Interstate 57 were closed on the South Side early Wednesday as crews worked to remove the wreckage of a semi-truck that crashed and burst into flames.

The jack-knifed truck was first reported about 2:25 a.m. near Wentworth Avenue, according to Illinois State Police. All northbound lanes were closed at Wentworth as of 3 a.m., but by 4:40 a.m., traffic was getting by while crews continued the clean-up.

All the northbound lanes of I-57 were reopened as of 8 a.m., police said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, police said.

The driver of the truck was taken to John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County, their injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.

Illinois State Police were investigating.

Other overnight accidents were reported in the northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan at 43rd, 47th and 63rd streets.
