Photographer's storm video appears in Thor sequel

PHOENIX -

A valley storm chaser and photographer who is known around the world for his dramatic time lapse videos of Arizona dust storms revealed some big news today.

Mike Olbinski's work is now appearing on the big screen, in the new sequel to 'Thor.'

Olbinski lives in Phoenix, but he travels all over the country to take pictures of storms.

This past summer, he set out onto the Texas Plains to capture something few ever can -- a massive rotating supercell.

"I was just so happy I had my camera set up and all settings right and it was just going in focus," says Olbinski.

900 pictures -- one photo per second. His time lapse went viral.

"We knew that we had something awesome once we put it together, and out there I didn't know that it would be received like this."

It caught the attention of Marvel Studios. The producers asked Olbinski if they could use his pictures in their movie, and he agreed. He waited months, unsure if his images would end up on the cutting room floor.

But indeed, his footage of the supercell is featured in 'Thor: The Dark World.'

He watched the movie last night at Tempe Marketplace.

"There was like dirt blowing on the ground and so that point I started getting really tense, nervous, excited, finally popped up and I'm like oh my God that's it!"

He says filmmakers used the storm video and mixed in special Hollywood effects. His pictures come up after a dramatic battle scene.

His name even appears on the credits.

"It's forever, it's hard to put into words what it means."

But who needs words, when a picture is worth a thousand? For Olbinski, everything lined up for his silver screen debut, making it quite literally the perfect storm.

"I think when you are passionate about something and you find the right way to like share it or display it, suddenly it all just comes together."

Olbinski says his images are about an hour into the movie, in theaters now.
