Caught On Camera: Bear Terrorizes Family Garbage

Posted: Updated:

A family in Apopka, Florida noticed some disarray outside their home, they were quite certain of what it was but set up a video camera just to be sure.

Some strange things have been happening outside this Apopka family's home

"When we got home from work Wednesday afternoon, we noticed our fence in the back had been bent" Homeowner Melynda Whitt.

Since Tuesday, Melynda Whitt has been waking up to the same scene of bent fences, gates left open, garbage everywhere.

With more evidence mounting, The Whitts suspected a bear. They wanted to catch the culprit.

"It had to have been something big," Melynda said. "I wanted to catch him on video. I wanted to see for myself what it was for sure."

So they dragged the garbage can out front to use as bait. Then set up the camera and waited.

"I waited for my dogs to bark and then once they started barking I woke my husband up and I said he's here, he's here, let's go" Melynda said.

Melynda said her husband noticed a big black thing on the webcam, it turned out to be a giant black bear making mincemeat of their garbage.

"He walked back there and We went to the laundry room immediately, and he's just laying there eating the garbage" Melynda said.

Watch the video to see the brazen bear taking his time and enjoy a snack before sauntering through the gate. The Whitts plan to contact Fish and Wildlife to see if the bear can be moved.
