SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

A motorcyclist was critically injured in a crash that closed northbound Loop 101 at McKellips on Tuesday morning.

Officials say a car swerved to avoid rear-ending slower traffic, causing a motorcycle to rear-end the swerving car.

The motorcyclist is critically injured and the car's driver has a minor injury. Both people were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The collision occurred on northbound Loop 101 between McKellips and McDowell.

The freeway was shutdown at McKellips while officials investigated for about two hours.

SkyFOX flying over the scene showed traffic is backed up for miles.
