Couple says "Don Juan" con artist scammed them before vanishing

PHOENIX -

A warning about a serial criminal and "Don Juan" con artist - who has been targeting women all across the United States, including here in Arizona.

He's already duped one local woman out of hundreds of dollars by using his good looks and charming personality.  But she's sharing her story in hopes that it will keep you from becoming his next victim.

Simon Gann was last arrested this past summer in Las Vegas -- police there extradited him to San Mateo, California for outstanding charges, but he has since been released.

Now one Arizona couple says he's here in the state, up to his old tricks -- and claim they're his latest victims.

Law enforcement officials just call him the Don Juan con artist.  They say he's charmed victims in California, Nevada, Massachusetts -- even all the way in Canada -- out of thousands of dollars before vanishing.

"..a true sociopath game that they're playing."

This Phoenix male and female don't want their identity to be known, but they say they believe they encountered Gann and also fell for his tricks.

"This gentleman was completely and without question, very convincing in terms of sincerity for what he provided in terms of supporting this charity we were going to be involved with."

It was at a Phoenix Coffee Shop where the victim met Gann.  She said Gann casually struck up a conversation with her and then began tell her the same fake story he's told countless victims before.

She said he had went to M.I.T., was a card counter -- even pulling out a deck of cards to show off his skill.  After hours of building trust, the couple said Gann told them he could make their charity money at the casino, but first he would need several hundred dollars to gamble.

"I didn't question it because who would think someone would have such an elaborate story for everything.  I've never encountered someone who is probably a text book sociopath."

The couple says they went with the man to the casino, but when they all went to a second casino, the man vanished.

"Fortunately he'd given us his first real name.  I just stated Googling all these different combinations."

The search pulled up story after story.  The con artist, his picture and the same m.o. -- a mathematical genius who could make money for his victims, instead only to leave behind a trail of deception.

"I was just floored.  I couldn't even believe it."

Simon Gann also has a twin brother named Jordan Gann.  He's dubbed the "Romeo Robber."  Both have been arrested several times on fraud and theft charges.

The couple I spoke to just hope Arizonans keep an eye out for Gann and alert police if they too have been scammed.
