Dr. Mike: New Statin Recommendations

"Heart disease is the number one killer in this country," says Dr. Mike.

The American Heart Association is making new recommendations about who should take statins to lower their risk of heart attack and stroke. Dr. Mike was on Good Day to summarize the new recommendations.

You should seriously consider taking statins if you

  1. Have had a heart attack
  2. Have LDL (bad cholesterol) greater than 190.
  3. Are Middle aged and have type 2 diabetes.
  4. Are 40-75 years of age and have greater than 7.5% heart attack risk.
