The DDOT bus driver who was attacked with bleach earlier this month is still experiencing blurred vision.

Damon Jackson was assaulted November 3 while driving his normal bus route near the old state fair grounds. He says he noticed a suspicious passenger standing at the bus stop, and when he opened the bus door for the passenger, a liquid substance was splashed in his face.

"As soon as the door opened, that's when I got splashed. At first I thought it was urine or water, but when it hit me I smelled the bleach," Jackson remembers. "It was running green out my eyes, my nose and mouth; I even swallowed half of the bleach that came into my face. I'm still getting upset stomachs."

Jackson is not blind but his vision is too blurred to drive. He also must wear dark glasses because his eyes won't adjust to light. He says his eyes are constantly burning, which causes excruciating headaches.

DDOT recently protested the lack of safety on the job. Detroit Police Chief James Craig said 10 undercover officers will ride the busses, but some believe that would not be enough. A new police department proposal calls for 35 undercover officers to protect the drivers and passengers.
