PHOENIX -

An Air Force flight medic and his wife are struggling after their son was born premature, weighing just 1 pound, 8 ounces.

With Angel De La Cruz stationed in Iraq, his wife Lorena left her job so she could stay home and take care of their newborn five years ago.

The medical expenses began to add up.  They gave up their car so they could pay the bills.

On Thursday, they received a free vehicle so Lorena can find a new job.

"I'm very grateful and very thankful that you donated your time and your hearts," said Angel.

A refurbished 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer was donated by the Recycled Rides program, which is run by Caliber Collision.  Ameriprise Insurance donated the vehicle.

"It's very surreal.  It's very, very, very amazing. It's nice to know that my husband's sacrifice is appreciated," said Lorena.

The Trailblazer was also packed with toys for their son Maximilian.  Their little boy couldn't be happier.

"This is a blessing.  This is more than me and my family expected," said Angel.  "It's nice to know us as military members will go out there and support our country and to know there are people who genuinely do care."

A chance for people to show their gratitude for Angel's service to our country.
