Former NFL Player Is Looking For A Job

Posted: Updated:

From having one of the most desired jobs ever to not having one at all, a former NFL player is now walking the streets of California asking for a job.

"I haven't played a whole lot lately because life's been hard," he said.

Wearing his Rose Bowl ring, Lynn Madsen plays his own tune, a tune of his life, However, his song wasn't always sorrowful.

"I was actually the first player from Vista High to make it to the NFL," he recalled.

After college, he played for the then Houston Oilers, making 80,000 per year.

"Then I met this beautiful gal from Carlsbad," he said.

He married the love of his life, Krista. And after an injury ended his NFL career, he started a business

"We made advertising specialty items disguised as truck accessories," he said.

Things started to boom, but then tragedy struck.

"We found a lump in Krista's breast right after the birth of our third daughter. We lost her in 2003, so then it was just me and a 5 year old, a 10 year old and a 12 year old holding on for dear life."

Madsen's been out of work now for a year.

"I thought I got to do something, so I thought maybe the sign," he said.

He stands on the streets of Vista in a suit passing out resumes and talking to people. At the very bottom of his resume, he even writes, raising three girls all alone.

"It was hard to do it the first time and every time it's hard to do it. You cringe," he said.

His sign says he's a salesman and he's here selling himself.

"I kind of think I'm a pretty good communicator, a good motivator. I can create something out of nothing, you know, like my music, I created that out of nothing."

And so he stands here, creating what he hopes will be a brighter future.

"I need somebody to take a chance with me. At the end of the day, I still got to get hired," he said.
