DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -
Authorities say the man wanted in connection to a murder at a birthday party this past weekend killed himself before U.S. Marshals could take him into custody on Friday.
Police had been searching for 40-year-old Ohave Whitfield since last Saturday. They say he was a guest at a birthday party being thrown at a home on Crystal Lake Drive. They believe an argument turned violent, leading him to shoot and kill 53-year-old Alicia Johnson. Her daughter, 31-year-old Dana Johnson, was also shot during the incident.
Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force caught up with Whitfield around noon on Friday in DeKalb County. When he spotted authorities, he got into the passenger seat of a car and fled the scene. They ended up in a parking lot near the intersection of Wesley Chapel Road and Snapfinger Woods Drive. That is where he pulled out a handgun and shot himself.
The driver of the vehicle, who has not yet been identified, is cooperating with investigators.
