Search for a hero: Unknown good samaritan helps save woman's life

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - After a car crash, a woman's arm was pinned beneath her vehicle.  She was bleeding profusely and could have died, but one man's actions saved her and no one knows who that man is.

Phoenix Police and the woman's family want to find the passerby who sprung into action and is credited with keeping that woman alive.

Usually when police are looking for someone, it's not a good thing, but that's not the case here.  Officers are looking for someone who may have saved a woman's life.

Take a look at the video -- you can see a blue Lexus sedan on its side near 3rd Avenue and Bell Road in north Phoenix.

The woman who was hurt was driving the car.  Her left arm went out through the driver's side window and was nearly severed.  That's where this missing good samaritan came in.  He took off his belt and used it as a tourniquet to help stop the bleeding.  And he stayed with the woman until paramedics arrived at the scene, but left before anybody got his name.

We have this picture on our Facebook page and hundreds of people have shared it.  Someone posted that they know who the mystery man is, but we haven't confirmed it yet.

"Obviously these times we live in we don't see a lot of that and it would be amazing for us to see some individual off the streets use his belt, but also be there and console the woman in this situation," said Sgt. Steve Martos.  "The doctors and medical staff say if he had not used his belt as a tourniquet, this elderly female would have died at the scene."

The woman's family members want to meet the man who saved her life and thank him.
