Former secret service agent Clint Hill recalls JFK assassination

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Former Secret Service Agent Clint Hill jumped on the limousine carrying President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in Dallas, Texas after Kenned was assassinated.

Hill has blamed himself for not doing more to prevent Kennedy's death.

He spoke about his memory of that fateful day with Good Day NY.

“What I see in my head is what happened that day and the President lying in Mrs. Kennedy’s lap with his head blown off and his blood and brains all over the car and myself. I was the only one who had a chance to do anything. My intent was to get on top of the car to shield them. But after I got to the car the shooting stopped,” said Hill.

The car slowed down after the shots were fired.

When the shots were fired he (the driver) slowed down. He thought one of the tires had blown. You see the brake lights come on. It slowed down slightly. Then he started accelerating just as I got there and I slipped," said Hill.

He has written two books about the Kennedy assassination, Mrs. Kennedy and Me and the more recent, Five Days in November.

Life after the assassination was difficult particularly the first year of Kennedy's death. He was very close to Mrs. Kennedy.

"I was there when young Patrick was born and when he died. We had this tragic bond between the two of us. I just tried to make her life as pleasant as possible. It was very difficult to face her and the children after that. It really just ate at me over the years," said Hill.
