Houston at Jacksonville (Sunny 80)- Thursday December 5
Houston has been one of the bigger disappointments this NFL season and that has carried over to the world of fantasy. From Matt Schaub being replaced midseason to Arian Foster's injury it has been big ugly in Houston.
Case Keenum failed to throw a touchdown for the second straight game and faces a Jaguars defense that held him to 169 yards just two weeks ago. That isn't where the problem ends though.
Since their bye four weeks ago, the Jaguars defense has not allowed an entire team to rush for more than 100 yards in a game. Not that the opponents have been great in the running game, but they did hold Houston to just 75 yards just two weeks ago. That included just one yard on seven carries for the Texans lead sled dog Ben Tate. In their week 13 loss to New England, Tate scored three times while rushing for a season high 102 yards on 22 carries.
Andre Johnson has 82 catches this season for 1,123 yards but has just five touchdowns. All five came in back to back games against Indianapolis and Arizona. He has been shutout of the endzone the other 10 weeks of the season. That stat includes the last meeting with the Jags when Johnson caught just two passes for 36 yards.
Chad Henne has thrown for four touchdowns in his last seven games. That number is just gross and not NFL quarterback material. Considering he has thrown for twice as many interceptions over that same time frame, there is no nightmare bad enough where you would consider putting Henne in your lineup…even against Houston's bad defense. He threw for 239 yards in their meeting two weeks ago, but failed to find the endzone.
To say Maurice Jones Drew likes playing against the Texans would be like an eskimo saying he likes snow. MJD has averaged 115 combo yards and a touchdown against Houston over his past five games. Two weeks ago, he put up his best numbers of the year rushing for 84 yards and a touchdown and catching six passes for another 60 yards.
We can't with good faith advise you to start any Jags receivers, but know that Cecil Shorts does have six or more receptions in seven of 12 games this season. In week 12 he caught eight balls against the Texans for 71 yards making him a WR3 or flex option.
