De Blasio pushes pre-K plan to Assembly Democrats

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio attended the annual luncheon sponsored by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver on Monday. His purpose as to firm up support to lobby Albany to pay for universal prekindergarten by increasing taxes on New York City residents making more than $500,000.

De Blasio said the Assembly members in the room warmly received his proposal. The all-Democrat luncheon with Assembly members was more like a rally.

Assembly Member Jose Rivera of the Bronx said he is looking forward to welcoming and working with de Blasio.

But because the mayor-elect was essentially preaching to the choir, to his own fellow Democrats, what is his plan to convince the Senate majority leader, Republican Dean Skelos of Nassau County, who is publicly opposed to new taxes? De Blasio answered that he will remind Republicans that New Yorkers back the plan.

De Blasio also said he has not chosen either a police commissioner or schools chancellor nor has he decided whether he will live in Gracie Mansion. He did promise two big announcements this week.
