"There was a man laying right here in the street, and he was trying to get up and, you know how when a dog is hit by a car he's dragging himself, and his shoe was right here in front of my house," says Sarah Johnson.

The hit and run happened just before 1 p.m. on November 29 on Glenmore in Redford. Police say the 30-year-old victim, who suffers from schizophrenia, just underwent his third surgery.

Officer Jonathan Strong of the Redford Police Department tells Fox 2's Robin Murdoch the extent of the victim's injuries: "Shattered femur; shattered knee; broken lower leg; fractured shoulder; and fractured left hand,"

This is the second mentally disabled man in the Redford Twp. area to become a victim of a crime in recent days. Recent surveillance video shows a suspect punching then stomping on a gas station customer. The search is still on for that suspect, and now also for the driver of the vehicle involved in this hit and run. Police are looking for a white 2011 to 2014 Volkswagon Jetta with a shattered windshield.

"Our preliminary investigation really can't come up with a reason why the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and left the roadway," says Strong.

She reports investigators in Redford have reached out to area police departments and body shops, letting them know to watch for a white Jetta with significant damage. If you have any information on this hit and run you are also asked to give police a call.
