Freezing Rain, Drizzle Causing More Slick Conditions

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The snow is over, but freezing rain and drizzle is making for slick travel on many roadways this morning.

Winter Weather Advisories were extended overnight until 5 a.m. in Philadelphia, 7 a.m. in the north and west suburbs, and 9 a.m. for the Poconos because temperatures are rising but doing so slowly.

The National Weather Service says that, while most areas in and around the Philadelphia Metro region are above freezing and receiving a light rain, there will be icy spots on un-treated surfaces and treated overpasses.

"Secondary roads and sidewalks will still have icy spots this morning," a special weather advisory says. "Freezing rain was reported in a lot of places early this morning and a thin glaze formed on the untreated surfaces, making for very treacherous travel conditions. Some treated overpasses and bridges are susceptible to icy spots as well. It will take a few more hours of rain to help wash away any ice that formed on these surfaces. "

Please use caution when traveling this morning. Allow extra time to reach your destination and give yourself extra braking distance.

The freezing rain and rain should be completely over by late morning noon.

Later, the sun comes out and we get to a high of 43 degrees.

A bit more snow is on the way for midday Tuesday. At this point, it looks like this will mostly be a shore and southern Delaware event, but we could get light snow, too, FOX 29's Sue Serio says.
