Donations pour in for family whose Christmas gifts were stolen

FOREST PARK, Ga. -

Help has poured in for a family whose Christmas presents were stolen in a home invasion on Monday night.

Charles Campbell said that his family, including his wife and his 9-year-old grandson, was held at gunpoint at their Forest Park home while thieves got away with hundreds of dollars of gifts.

Some neighbors are now doing what they can to make sure that the Campbell family has gifts under the Christmas tree this year. Campbell said one young man gave him $300.

"It was his Christmas present….He took his Christmas present – him and his brother --gave it to my grandson because they loved him," Campbell said.

The armed men got into the Burks Road home through an unlocked door while the 9-year-old boy played video games.

Local leaders visited with Campbell on Tuesday while working to reassure concerned residents.

Campbell said he plans to upgrade his security system. He said he was encouraged by the overwhelming show of support his family received after the crime.

Forest Park police said they are following leads on the case.
