South Philly Store Clerk Attacked And Robbed

Posted: Updated:

"I hit my back on the edge of the counter," said a South Philly convenience store owner who is now back at work with severe back pain. It's the reason we're protecting his identity after he was attacked in his store while surveillance cameras rolled. It happened around noon on Monday of last week.

"He was buying some snacks or drinks he paid for. So I opened the register and at that moment he jumped over the counter and he tried to grab the money so I resisted. I wrestled with him a little," said the victim.

The video shows the suspect pretending to buy something inside City News Tobacco store. He even pays for the items before turning around to buy more stuff. The second or third time the clerk opens the register the suspect jumps the counter to take the money. The clerk instantly pushes back.

"He just grabbed me and I also grabbed him. So we just wrestled in this area," he said.

At one point the clerk has the guy by the neck but he breaks free and the struggle continues outside of the cameras view. Then there's a quick glimpse of the clerk being slammed against the edge of the counter.

"I couldn't catch him so he grabbed some money and he ran away," said the victim who says he went to the hospital and suffered broken ribs.

If you recognize the suspect call Philadelphia Police.
