Local shoppers react to Target security breech

A federal investigation is underway into the massive Target security breach that may have exposed data from as many as 40 million accounts. The chain said that customers who made purchases using their cards at its U.S. stores between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15 may have had their data exposed. If you made in-store purchases during that time period be sure to check your bank statements and credit card purchase history. Target says the security breach did not affect online purchases.

Target Corp. advised customers who suspect there has been unauthorized activity on their cards should call them at 866-852-8680.

"During this time of the year we have to be just so careful because there's some people out there that want to rip you off," says Joseph Waller.

"There's a lot of people involved. I was a bit surprised that it's going to affect that many customers," one Target customer told Fox 2's Ron Savage.

Katonya Downer says she pays with cash. "It's best, especially at this time of the year, you know, I can't take a risk at all," she says.
