Missing Ann Arbor teen reunited with mom

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) -

The mother of a missing teen from Ann Arbor says her daughter was found safe Christmas Day, but now police are investigating whether the girl was the victim of an abduction.

The girl, 14, claims she was abducted by a group of unknown people after running away from home late last week, then held against her will inside of an unknown home.

Mom got the call she was hoping for Wednesday afternoon. Her daughter was on the other end of the line, and said she was calling from inside a jewelry store after the owner spotted her walking by herself along Michigan Avenue. She was visibly upset.

The business owner brought the girl inside and allowed her to use his phone. She called mom, who quickly got in the car and raced over.

After a tearful reunion, the young girl relayed her nightmarish account of what happened to mom.

"She says they were keeping her there even though she wanted to leave," mom told Fox 2 Christmas Day. "Then they saw the news report and put her out this (Dec. 25) morning."

The girl also told police she had been sexually assaulted, and underwent tests Wednesday evening.

Mom spoke with Fox 2 minutes after reuniting with her daughter. They were on their way to talk with detectives.

Ann Arbor police were asking for the public's assistance locating the 14-year-old. She originally ran away from home after a family dispute, then police received more information indicating she could be in danger.

Prior to Wednesday, she had last been seen Sunday afternoon at Briarwood Mall.

If you have any information that might help police, please call the Ann Arbor Police anonymous tip line at 734-794-6939.
