ELOY, Ariz. -

A 27-year-old Mexican national was arrested after he allegedly led deputies on a pursuit and then jumped into a water-filled canal.

Pinal County sheriff's office says one of their K-9 deputies saw an SUV driving recklessly on I-10, near Eloy.

The deputy saw the vehicle speeding, weaving in and out of traffic and following other vehicles too closely.

PCSO identified the driver as Alejandro Castillo-Padilla.

When the deputy tried to stop the SUV, PCSO says Padilla ignored him and led him on a pursuit.

At one point, Padilla turned off, allegedly ran several stop signs and drove at nearly 90 mph.

Padilla eventually stopped at Wheeler Road and Baumgartner Road and ran into a canal.

PCSO says Padilla began wading through two foot deep water and ignored the deputy's commands to stop.

The K-9 deputy told Padilla he was going to release his dog if he didn't stop, but he continued into the water.

The deputy released his K-9, named Ares, and he helped the deputy get Padilla into custody.

According to Sheriff Paul Babeu, Padilla told the deputy he ran because he has been deported back to Mexico from the US 10 times already.

He was last deported in June after being in prison for 15 months, says U.S. Border Patrol.

Padilla allegedly told deputies he walked across the border again two weeks ago.

Padilla was booked into the Pinal County Jail for felony flight and reckless driving and an immigration hold was placed on him.
