A woman in Roseville got quite the scare on Friday morning when she woke to find an SUV had crashed into her home. Turns out the SUV was stolen and the suspect had actually jumped out if it trying to escape police.

According to police, the vehicle was stolen from a home in the 32,000 block of Kelly just before 10:00 a.m. The owner was warming up the car in the driveway, unattended, when the 20-year-old suspect got in and drove off with it.

Fraser police were in the area and were able to track down the suspect and the 2005 GMC Envoy. That's when the suspect tried to ditch the stolen SUV by making a run for it. The vehicle then rolled through Elizabeth Northrup's front yard and stopped when it hit her house.

Police say it was a crime of opportunity.

"I heard the bushes hit the window and I thought, 'That's not wind,'" Northrup says. "I came outside and there's police everywhere and, I look at the car and see the car on the front porch and just gestured to the police and they said 'Please stay in the house, ma'am,'" she remembers.

"Doesn't really matter about the weather because you'll see someone will run into a convenience store or a store real quick. They'll park on the curb and say 'I'm only going to be in for a couple minutes' and it could be the middle of July, and you'll see the same situation happen because the vehicle's been left out running for some reason. They think, well, nothing's going to happen and that's how a lot of people think of it until it happens to you," reminds Deputy Chief Donald Glandon of Roseville Police.

Police dogs from St. Clair Shores were able to track the suspect to a nearby garage where he was hiding out. The suspect is being held in the Roseville jail, waiting to be officially arraigned. That will likely happen sometime early next week.
