Teenager Saves Young Girl From Frigid Waters

Posted: Updated:

"This woman was on the ground crying, saying, like, screaming, just, you know, ‘somebody get my baby...'" Devon Nash recalled.

A few minutes before, Nash was sitting warm in his home when he heard screams that a little girl was in trouble. That's when he says he did the scariest thing he's ever done in his life.

"The second I jumped in the water, it felt like my lungs just, like, shrunk instantly, and I could barely breathe... I felt like I was going to drown with her..." he recalled.

The first time he went under he says there were no signs of her anywhere.

"That water was just so cold... it was crazy," he remembered.

But he was not alone, because his father guided him from the shore.

"My dad was all like, ‘hey there's bubbles! Right there, right there...'"

The second time he went under though, he felt an arm. It was her. He immediately pulled her to the bank where another neighbor who is ex-military immediately began administering CPR.

"He's my hero...that's my baby, he's my hero..." said Courtney Felton, Nash's mother.

"I'm not used to hearing stuff like that it feels like I did a real super great thing..." Nash reflected.

Felton told us that she didn't worry about her son's safety, not even for one second.

"No, I knew he could do it…I have faith in him..." she said.

She now has added faith in his ability as a big brother.

"He has two little sisters that are about that little girl's age, so I know they're safe... always..." Felton said.

The little girl was transported by chopper to children hospital where her condition is said to be serious.

"All we can do is just… pray to God and hope for the best, and I really do hope she comes out okay," said Nash.

Devon says he hopes to meet her when she's better.
