Fitness through 'battle ropes'

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Some bodacious bods are working harder than usual at Crunch gym in Chelsea. Welcome to Powerwave battle ropes, a class not meant for the faint of heart.

"I usually take yoga classes," said Ambyr D'amato, a Crunch yoga instructor. "I like that I can actually use some of my yoga moves to my advantage like doing pushups or squats."

Here's how the class works. Three people are to a rope. When one person is swinging the ropes, their teammates are doing cardio intervals like mountain climbers.

Justin Flexen teaches the class.

"We cheer each other on, it's very motivational, it's very inspiring for me to see everyone come back every week getting stronger and stronger," he said.

Crunch started offering a class involving the ropes a few months ago. Crunch personal trainer Adriene Couvillion said the class is hot.

"This is a nice change of pace with the battle ropes because not only was I working my muscles, I feel a lot of burn in my biceps and in my legs from the squatting," Couvillion said.

These battle ropes are a lot harder than they look, believe me. If you're brave enough to try out this class you can download a one day guest pass on Crunch.com.
