GQ Magazine Lists Top 10 Cheesesteak Places In Philly

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

If there is one food that Philadelphia is known for, it's the cheesesteak. The most common question that follows is: who makes the best?

GQ Magazine decided to weigh in with their own top-ten list.

According to food writer Alan Richman, he and four other food writers tried 23 different cheesesteaks at ten places in Philadelphia.

  • 10. Geno's
  • 9. Tony Luke's
  • 8. Steak's On South
  • 7. Pat's
  • 6. Steve's Prince
  • 5. John's Roast Pork
  • 4. Campo's Deli
  • 3. Joe's Steaks
  • 2. Philip's Steaks
  • 1. Sonny's Famous Steaks

Besides Richman, the other reviewers included Dr. Benjamin Abella, an emergency room physician from Hospital of University of Pennsylvania, Maria Gallagher, a former restaurant critic for Philadelphia magazine, Jeff Ruby, a restaurant critic for Chicago magazine and Ray Didinger, Philadelphia sportscaster.

"I cannot say the list is entirely democratic. Although all five of us voted, and all votes were counted, I tinkered a little, moving some places up a notch, some down. We were unanimous in our choice of the best and the worst," Richman explained further.
