Trenton man, 23, urges all to slow down after nearly dying in traffic crash

(WJBK) -

Raven Campbell was in the passenger seat of a crashed car. It took of the jaws of like to remove the 23 year old. You may think it was weather that caused this accident that happened the day after Christmas in Trenton. But Campbell says that could not be further from the truth.

"He starts driving down West Jefferson and from 45 he goes just straight up to 70, speeding."

The young man in the driver's seat, Campbell says, is a friend of his brothers who he trusted, until now.

"The light was red. He word-for-word said, 'F it,' and ran through the red light," Campbell remembers. Campbell says he was pleading with the driver to slow down, and praying that the car would get pulled over by police.

"When we got up to about Van Horn that's when a semi pulled out, an 18-wheeler, and took up two lanes. I knew that he wasn't going to be able to get around it," Campbell says. That's when Campbell was convinced his life was in danger. He says kept pleading with the driver to slow down, who then started driving at 90 miles per hour trying to get around the semi truck.

Nick Dudash was driving by on Jefferson Avenue and saw how it all came to an end.

"I saw a car - it looked like a blue, little car that was down the hill, looked pretty messed up in the front though, hit a tree," Dudash says.

Campbell ending at Oakwood Hospital with a punctured lung, broken ribs, fractures, shattered bones and broken body parts. In many places pins hold him together. Campbell says the driver was recklessly driving and would like to see justice.

Fox 2's Andrea Isom spokes with a Trenton police officer Wednesday. The department understands Campbell wants justice and say they are still investigating and collecting evidence, and that this case is not closed. Charges could still be pending.

In the meantime, Campbell says he wants his story to serve as a reminder to all to slow down on the roads, especially during the winter weather.
