Flavor Flav arrested after speeding on Long Island

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - The rapper known as Flavor Flav was arrested as he was speeding to get to his mother's funeral.

The New York State Police pulled over William Drayton, 54, on Long Island after he was clocked going 79 miles per hour in a 55 MPH zone.

State troopers pulled him over at about 9:30 a.m. on the southbound side of the Meadowbrook State Parkway near the Southern State Parkway in Hempstead.

After a license check they discovered that he was operating with 16 suspensions on his license.  He was also found with a small amount of marijuana, according to police.

Drayton was arrested for felony aggravated unlicensed operation and traffic violations.  He was released on an appearance ticket in order to allow him to attend his mother's funeral.  He is due back in a Nassau County court at a later date.

Flavor Flav is known as the clock-wearing rapper with the group Public Enemy.  He has also appeared on several VH1 reality shows including Flavor of Love.

He grew up in Freeport, Long Island.

The flagship Bronx Zoo is now home to a herd of endangered Turkmenian flare-horned markhor, a species of mountain goat native to Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Some river otter pups are getting to know their home in Prospect Park, and the Queens Zoo has some new majestic American bison.

    One of the two deputy U.S. marshals shot in the West Village was released from the hospital on Tuesday. The marshals and an NYPD detective were seriously wounded in a shootout with fugitive sexual assault suspect Charles Richard Mozdir, officials said. The shootout happened in a smoke shop called Smoking Culture on West 4th Street near Jones Street. Mozdir was killed.
