2 figure skaters from Illinois head to Olympics

CHICAGO (AP) - Two Illinoisans will represent the U.S. during figure skating competitions at the Olympic Games in Sochi.

Gracie Gold took first place in the weekend's U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Boston.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports the 18-year-old moved to the Springfield area in 2010 and studied briefly at Chatham Glenwood High School. She later moved to the Chicago suburbs to train full-time before heading to California to work with her current coaches.

Meanwhile, Highland Park native Jason Brown took second place in the men's competition. The 19-year-old from the Chicago suburbs finished behind Jeremy Abbott of Aspen, Colo.

The Winter Olympics begin Feb. 7.
