"Become Your Own Boss In 12 Months," she wrote. Today, Melinda F. Emerson was on Good Day to talk about how anyone can take their lives into their own hands and turn their own ideas into reality.

"The number one reason why small businesses fail is because people don't think about what their life will be like running their small business," said Emerson. "In the first few years your business owns you, you don't own your business. So you have to be prepared for."

Emerson explains that the number two reason for failure is that people don't have networks to sell to. After all, must small businesses get their starting clients through referrals; therefore, keep in touch with friends!

Emerson also emphasizes that you have to save enough money! You have limited time and limited resources when you first start out.

"The money to start your own business will come from your left or right pocket," said Emerson. Emerson also emphasizes that you have to find your niche target. Don't try to chase after anyone who has money.

"It's much easier to hit a target if you know what that target is."

There are five businesses that you can start today, says Emerson, who reaches about 3 million entrepreneurs a week online.

  1. Baker
  2. Mobile Notary
  3. Personal Trainer
  4. Virtual Assistant
  5. Jewelry Designer

"Confidence is 90 percent. You have to believe in yourself. If you don't believe it, why would anybody buy from you? You have got to do that. You've got to have that in play," said Emerson.

So for those of you who want to start your own business, watch the whole segment above and turn your dreams into a reality!
