Caught On Tape: Masked Gunman Robs Wawa, 5th Holdup Since Fall

PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia Police are asking for your help to ID a man they say robbed a Wawa early Monday morning.

Officials are trying to determine if the suspect is connected to other robbery investigations.

FOX 29's Dave Schratwieser spoke with a lot of nervous customers about the incident.

A masked gunman entered the Wawa just off the Oxford Circle early Monday morning and proceeded to rob the place despite the presence of a handful of customers and employees.

"It hasn't been violent yet. Any robberies where a gun comes into play there's always that potential where it could end badly," Capt. Frank Palumbo told FOX 29.

Police now believe this could be the same armed robber who's held up the place. It was robbed four times last fall.

The first few times the suspect was wearing a "Scream" mask. This time around, it was just a plain ski mask.

"He comes in quickly, leaves fairly quickly. He appears to know where to go for the money," Captain Palumbo explained.

"It's a shame to see that happened to them," said one customer.

"I would be petrified, me personally. I would have quit after the second time," customer Charlotte Jones said.

Customers were surprised to hear their favorite convenience store had been robbed again. Wawa offered a $5,000 dollar reward after the first four robberies, even closing the store in the early morning hours until last week.

"If it is the same male, he didn't wait real long to come back," Palumbo said.

"Definitely makes me look at people a little differently, I'm sure, when I'm inside," another customer said.

Investigators say the gunman was in and out of the store in less than two minutes. He took $950 and made his escape through a side door then over a big fence behind the store. Every move was caught on tape.

"Police are stepping up patrols in that area and we hope to make an apprehension as soon as possible with the help of the public," Palumbo added.

There is now a $10,000 reward offered by Wawa for information leading to an arrest and conviction. If you have any information, you can call the Citizens Crime Commission at 215-546-TIPS.

Police say there were two suspects during the first robbery, but only one suspect in the ensuing four robberies.
