Kentucky Inmates Teach County Jail Deputy What A "Selfie" Is

Posted: Updated:
CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY -

The Christian County Jailer and his Chief Deputy learned what "selfie" means through some uncanny circumstances. Inmates at a Kentucky Prison started facebooking, Instagraming and even tweeting from jail, and they even created a business for it by charging fellow inmates for phone calls.

In the pictures taken from a cell phone career, criminals Timothy Forte and Earl Caldwell can be seen flaunting close to a thousand dollars. No one is quite sure how the phone was smuggled into the jail, but the inmates have been charged with first and second degree contraband after being exposed.

All jailhouse phone calls are monitored and recorded, but the inmates allegedly were charging other inmates to use the cell phone to make calls out.

The biggest concern of the jail officials is not what images can hit the web, but what conspiring can develop without regulation.

"A person could use a cell phone to stage an attack, set up crimes on the street or a possible escape attempt."

Both Forte and Caldwell were charged with contraband. Caldwell plead guilty, Forte fought the charges and won, but both convicted felons are sitting in federal prison on drug charges with lengthy sentences ahead of them.

Christian County jailers confiscated the cell phone and are almost positive that underground phone calls were made by several inmates.

Luckily they've now put a stop to all of that.
