DETROIT (WJBK) -- Cass Tech quarterback Jayru Campbell could face assault and battery charges after he allegedly body slammed a security guard on Wednesday, a Detroit Public Schools official said.

Detroit Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Steve Wasko said Thursday Campbell was arrested by the Detroit Public Schools Police Department and was being held at a detention center.

Maria Miller, a spokeswoman for the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, says they have received information on the matter, but would not comment further.

Video posted online (see above) claims to show Campbell body slamming the security guard as a crowd looks on.

Another video was sent to FOX 2 showing the moments before the alleged body slam happened. In that video (also above), you can see the security guard and Campbell facing each other. Then, Campbell appears to shove the security guard first and when the guard approaches him the two square off.

Campbell, a junior, led Cass Tech to back-to-back Division 1 state championship in football in 2011 and 2012. He is a verbal commitment in Michigan State's 2015 recruiting class. Rivals.com lists Campbell as a four-star recruit.

Officials at Michigan State would not offer comment, citing NCAA rules prohibiting institutions from commenting on specific prospects until a National Letter of Intent has been signed.

"Jayru's one of the hardest working kids I know. And he's smart," said teammate Jamaal Brown. "I think the whole situation was self defense. When somebody puts their hands on you, you got a right to defend yourself."
