Philly's Finest Part Of Elite Security At Super Bowl

PHILADELPHIA -

It's game-on for a select group of Philadelphia's finest, hand-picked to be part of the security detail at Super Bowl XLVIII.

At the invitation of the New Jersey State Police, members of Philadelphia's counter-terrorism unit will be at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands for the big game.

They'll be part of an elite security squad assembled by state, local and federal authorities to protect fans that flock to the world's most popular sporting event.

"We will be assisting them in screening of persons and vehicles entering the stadium complex and also providing an emergency response capability," Lieutenant Ed Baldini said.

"It gets no bigger than this," Chief Inspector Joe Sullivan said. "They have the equipment and the know-how to respond quickly and mitigate the threat."

The counter-terrorism unit has been training with the New Jersey State Police and the FBI for weeks now.

They say it's an honor for Philadelphia to participate in protecting the Super Bowl.
