Cass Community Services offers rides to shelters

(WJBK) -

No one feels the bone chilling cold more than the homeless, and getting a ride to a shelter to stay warm can also be a challenge.

That's why Cass Community Services is offering shuttle rides to those who need it.

Drivers are going around downtown to see if those living on the street need a ride to local shelters. Whether it's a scheduled pick up or keeping an eye out, they're making sure people stay out of the cold.

"A lot of times you see them walking down the street or see them sitting on the side of the street," says Mary Lytle, driver.

Nearly 20,000 homeless people are in Detroit, and that number is growing.
