CHICAGO (AP) - U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin has pressed the nation's top lawman for specifics on a pledge he made last November in Chicago to offer the city more federal help fighting persistent street violence.

But in response, Attorney General Eric Holder Wednesday offered no new details.

The Illinois Democrat broached the issue during Holder's appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington.

Since Holder's announcement in Chicago, the Justice Department has publicly offered no specifics. And Durbin asked Holder if he could offer some now.

But in a brief reply, Holder said only that he's looking at grants and possibly increasing numbers of federal agents in Chicago, either temporarily or permanently.

Holder added he planned to speak to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago's U.S. attorney, Zachary Fardon, about the matter Thursday.
