NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A maimed pit bull puppy has recovered enough to go home with a loving family, according to the Nassau County SPCA. The dog, named Miss Harper, was found in September with her ears and one leg cut off.

She still needs more surgeries to repair her injuries. The Nassau SPCA is looking for animal lovers to help pay for her surgeries and adopt her.

"We are asking the public and animal lovers to help us in our efforts to raise funds for the needed surgeries and care that this poor puppy faces," said Detective Robert Sowers, a spokesman for the Nassau County SPCA, in a statement. "We have been working with the New York State Attorney General's Office and there is an ongoing criminal investigation into who is responsible for this puppy's condition."

If you can help or want to adopt the dog, you can contact the SPCS at adopt@ncspca.us or (516) 812-7771.
