Help local dermatologists test new acne medication

Many people spend a lot of time trying to hide their blemishes when they look in a mirror.

What is the best way to fight acne?

Over the counter benzoyl peroxide is recommended by doctors, but when that doesn't work a doctor can prescribe topical medications that help unclog pores and antibiotics that kill bacteria.

Dermatologist Steve Grekin explains the three steps to fighting acne.

"You need something that kills the bacteria, whether it's benzoyl peroxide of a topical antibiotic. You need a retinoid, something that opens the pore. And the third and final thing is you need a cleanser that washes away the excess dirt and oil without stripping the skin."

Dr. Grekin is looking for anyone over the age of 12 to test a new acne medication. The treatment is an FDA approved topical medication. If participating, you will receive the medication for free and apply it once a day.

If you are interested call the Warren Grekin Skin Institute at (586) 759-5525.
