Cell phone video of Mesa Police arrest goes viral

"This guy is screaming.. they just banged his head against the ground, elbowed him a couple times."

Did Mesa Police use excessive force during this arrest?

On Friday, officials responded with their side of the story.

It looks pretty calm in the beginning at the intersection of 44th Street and Broadway -- but a man driving to work to a cell phone video of officers punching a suspect in the head while he was face down on the ground.

The suspect had been arrested for a standoff the day before and then escaped from a hospital after his arrest.
