A vigil was held Thursday night to mourn the loss of the 25-year-old who died after a struggle with security guards at Northland Mall.

Friends, loved ones and supporters initially gathered outside the mall, but moved inside to the spot of the confrontation. The group was allowed to have a moment to grieve in front of the jewelry store and then had to go back outside.

Two vigil attendees tell FOX 2's Erika Erickson a teenaged girl was arrested while the group was inside. The circumstances of the arrest are not known at this time.

Southfield police say McKenzie Cochran died Jan. 28 after getting pepper-sprayed and restrained by the guards. The incident was captured on video by a witness's cell phone.

Officials say Cochran told a shop owner in the mall that he wanted to "kill somebody," and the owner called security.

Police are investigating his death.

Two state legislators, Representatives Thomas Stallworth III (D-Detroit) and Rudy Hobbs (D-Southfield), are also calling for a review of state training standards for security guard forces.

Family of McKenzie Cochran is inviting the community to attend his funeral on Saturday, Feb. 8 beginning at 10 a.m. The service will be held at The Historic King Solomon Baptist Church on 14th Street in Detroit.
