Box Truck Gets Stuck In Kensington

Posted: Updated:
Kensington -

No matter where you drive, our roads are taking a beating from the winter weather. A truck got stuck in a very tight spot this morning in Kensington. It happened this morning on the 600 block of East Westmoreland Street.

Raymond Texeira has never heard or seen anything like it.

"I was in the lot when I thought it was an earthquake or something like that," Texeria said.

The road practically swallowed the back end of a dairy delivery truck. Right in front of his Kensington home. Got milk anyone?

Michelle Morales passed by the scene. She says the ground just sucked in the truck.

The Philadelphia Water Department tells us this massive sink hole was caused by a 6 inch water main break. Police explain the pavement buckled when the heavy box truck drove over it.

"The weather is doing so many unexpected things. You never know what you're going to see the next day," Morales said.

Tito Ricardo is the milk truck manager. He says the driver is ok.

About two hours later, a tow truck came to the rescue with utility crews on standby in case of an emergency.

Once the truck was lifted out that's when you could really see the size of this thing. The sink hole is 20 feet wide and more than 13 feet deep.

While no one was evacuated, water is expected to be restored to 100 customers by Monday night.

As for the manager, since most of his cargo remained intact, he's not crying over spilt milk.

The Philadelphia Water Department says road had been secured and it will remain closed until further notice.
