CASA GRANDE, Ariz. -

A mother, father, and their 11-year-old son were found dead inside a Casa Grande home, the autopsy results are now leading to some questions about how the family died.

Pathologists determined that smoke inhalation killed two of the victims but they couldn't figure how the doctor died.

Dr. Joyce Bonenberger, her husband, and their 11-year-old son Trevor were all found dead in the charred ruins of their home outside Casa Grande in December.

Bonenberger and her son were found in bedrooms, her husband was found in the home's garage.

Investigators hoped that the autopsy and toxicology reports might shed some light on what happened and while the cause of the death for the surgeon's husband
to be smoke inhalation pathologists couldn't say how the doctor died.

The Pinal County Medical Examiner wrote in her autopsy report "there is no evidence of smoke inhalation" but they did find opiates in her system, specifically morphine and codeine.

The report goes on to say there was a charred cloth like material covering her mouth and small fractures on her skull. Authorities still couldn't say if any of things caused her death.

Bonenberger had been the Chief of Surgery at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center for nearly a decade.

Detectives are still waiting on the arson investigation to determine how the fire started.
