Georgia students turn work in online during storm

Posted: Updated:

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - When snow and freezing rain prompted the closure of schools throughout the state, students in Gainesville kept up with their assignments online.

Gainesville schools Superintendent Merrianne Dyer told the Times of Gainesville that students were able to get assignments from their teachers' web pages and turn their work in via email.

The newspaper reports that students in Gainesville and Hall County have each missed eight days of school because of bad weather.

Working from home doesn't equate to making up missed class time and students in both Hall County and Gainesville are scheduled to be in class Monday, which was supposed to be a day off.

Dyer says Gainesville's school board will also consider adding March 17 and April 4 as makeup days.
